Memorizing Scripture

First, Scripture memorization is one of the most effective ways to meditate on the Bible. If you want to know why meditation is important, read my blog on the subject here

Second, God speaks through his Word. If we have God’s Word in our heart, God can speak to us anytime. If you’ve ever wanted to hear God speak to during the day, as if by an audible voice, memorize Scripture. At the most unexpected and opportune times, those verses may come to mind and so direct your thoughts, actions, and desires. This is God speaking to you.

Third, there is no better defense against temptation than God’s very words. When Jesus was tempted in the wilderness, he quoted scripture (Matthew 4). When we are tempted, we should do the same.
